Born and raised in Newell, Iowa. Attended and graduated from Newell Providence High School in 1969. Attended LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas majoring in English education but transferred to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. Farmed for 8 years and sold real estate before moving to Ashton in 1980 and going to work for United Farmers Coop. After working at the coop for 23 years he went to work for POET Biorefining for 4 years before moving on to Sheldon Implement. While working at the coop he had an opportunity to work partime for KIWA radio station recording ads and announcing weekend programs. Finally retiring and taking the position of Ashton Library Director.
